Questions regarding switching
We are currently with Octopus Energy and according to my online statements I use 13755kwh of electricity each year.
I dont understand how we are using so much so we asked for a smart meter which was installed a few years ago. They never provided us with a digital display so it actually didnt help. We still dont know why we are using so much. We keep asking for a reader and all they say is they are out of stock and to keep checking.
We are on a variable plan and after looking online it appears Eon 24m fixed plan is actually cheaper so looking to switch.
My question is.... how likely is it we will get a display with Eon?
We have an electric water tank in the loft which heats our water. We have to keep it on all day every day. Could this be the reason for high usage? If so does anyone have any ideas to the usage down?
Finally, is now the right time to be fixing in?
Many thanks!

How do you heat the property? Are the readings on the bill smart or estimated? You can read the meter on the wall, make notes and then you'll know your consumption accurately.0

The chances of them sending you an IHD are nil. Try one of the apps to monitor use, or you should be able to see it in your octopus account.0

We heat the property through gas. We have a boiler in the kitchen and a water tank in the loft.
We have a smart meter so the readings are taken from that.0 -
If you have gas why are you using electricity at five times the price to heat the water?

Our house was brand new 6 years ago with a large national builder and thats the way it was set up. The boiler heats the house and the water tank heats the water.

If the smart meter is sending data then everything you need to know can be seen on the Octopus app or website. You can also simply read the meter just like we used to in the old days.

My question is.... how likely is it we will get a display with Eon?Unlikely, but suppliers have been told they should provide ongoing support for the IHD.

They should have given you one at the time but they won't now.77588p said:
Why is that though? Is there a national shortage? Seems weird to fit a smart meter and not give us a display.t0rt0ise said:The chances of them sending you an IHD are nil. Try one of the apps to monitor use, or you should be able to see it in your octopus account.0 -
Which gas boiler do you have. Someone here will know why it doesn't heat your water as well.0

I too find it hard to believe a modern gas heated house would not also have the water heated by the boiler, an option to heat the tank with electric certainly though. 13500 kWh for a gas heated house is ridiculously high even if the DHW is being heated with electric.
