South Staffs Water

We have just received our new water bill and it's a staggering £677.27. We moved in this property in 2006 and after speaking to others this seems incredibly high compared to the national average. I have tried to look into it and now emailed South Staffs but just wondered if anyone thought that this was correct? We live in a detached 3 bed house built in 1950 and council tax band D (Although the large3r house next door is C, but that's a task for another day) The house is average size and the water is charged on a rateable value but I still think it's a lot higher than it should be? I know we can get a meter fitted to help now there's only 2 of us in the house but still would like to know if the bill is correct!
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

what difference does the rate make if you are not on a meter?  isn't it just a flat amount per month no matter what you use?

different area but 2 adults in a 3 bedroom detached with a meter and paying less than half that per year.  that includes watering the garden when needed and filling the hot tub.

Yes it's flat amount each month £84.65 whatever is used but wanted to know how this is worked out. The bill is:

    280 rateable value x1.2127p for used/surface water

which seems too much for the house. We have a the same situation as you, apart from a Grandson how loves a hosepipe) so looks like a water meter it is!

Two of use moved into a 3 bed detached in 2006, had a water meter fitted and immediately halved our bill. Generally, if the number of beds exceeds the number of occupants a water meter is a great idea.

Two of us on a water meter here were billed £351 for the last 12 months. Even accounting for regional differences, why are you wasting time not sorting a meter out?
