‘The homemover process with most providers comes with a new minimum term at the new address , irrespective of how long is left on the existing term at the current address , obviously if in the last month , or last few months , you may you decide it’s worth paying to get out of the existing deal , ( if don’t want to use the existing provider at the new address ) , but if you do keep the same provider to either avoid ETC or because you are happy with them , you are in no worse situation, because if you joined someone new at the new address , that will almost certainly come with a minimum term.
In your case , if you don’t want to use BT at the new address , then you need to bite the bullet and not use the Home Mover scheme, but pay 7 months ETC , but if ( for example ) you signed up with Sky , chances are you would take a 24 month deal anyway , so unless the savings with the new provider made up for the price of cancellation with BT , it seems a unwise move .

Looks like BT have changed the obligations are far as the remaining contract for a home mover
Will I have to pay any charges for my home move?
We'll let you know if you need to pay for a new line installation when you start your home move.
You may have to pay an activation charge if you choose to upgrade to EE TV or BT Infinity in your new home (and you don't already have it where you live now).
If you want to cancel a BT product, you'll need to give us 30 days' notice, or you'll have to pay early termination charges. For more detailed information please visit www.bt.com/terms >
What will happen to my phone line contract term if I move?
If you want telephone service at your new address, a new 12-month contract term will always apply for the telephone line. Any un-used portion of Line Rental Saver that you paid at your old address, and any remaining contract term on a telephone calling plan, will both carry over to your new address.
What will happen to my broadband term if I move?
Any term remaining on your existing broadband contract will be transferred to your new address if you take the same service there. However, if the term on your broadband contract is less than three months, a new three-month contract will apply at your new address.
