little direct debits and gocardless

Hi Folks!
I had an email today from little direct debits saying that gocardless are unable to process their direct debits and that my current direct debits that I have with them won't be taking payment for the forseeable.
I have these direct debits on my tsb account ready for the switching incentive and I believe these needed to be in place by the 15th of this month!
Has anyone got any suggestions of a similar service elsewhere where I can get another 2 direct debits set up in time to be eligible for the tsb switching offer?
Tia

Most charities accept small monthly DDs.  I’ve used Greenpeace in the past at £1 per month. However it might be too late to have anything in place in 2 weeks.

Gocardless have had no problems for us, nor have we received any such notification from them. I have just checked the relevant email address to confirm this. We are a business user of their services.

Little Direct Debits (who I have just had to Google) appear to have stopped trading. I note that according to Gocardless scheme rules, there are a few things that would likely be in breach without specific permission from Gocardless. These are freely viewable on the website.

Please note that we do use the company for one of their restricted industries and have their full support in doing so, but have had to prove we are regulated beyond the minimum levels required in law for that specific service.

Little Direct Debits is taking a break for a while...

Therefore, creation of new payments will be temporarily unavailable but hopefully we will be back soon.

I've had the mail, too, OP, about this.
  • I too got this email. It ended up in the junk folder so didn't see it for a while. I think Fifty Pence Direct Debit still works so you could use that in a pinch. Could also add the bank account (not the card) to PayPal and send yourself £1. If I'm not mistaken the TSB Switch doesn't mention a minimum spend amount for direct debits so these options should be ok.

a lot of switches require active direct debits and as long as the 'little debits' DD has been set up and at least one payment taken it would be classified as active so the fact that no more payments are currently being taken would not matter?

Depends if Gocardless leave the active DD mandate in place or cancel it on their end.

I usually use Little Direct Debits & Small Direct Debit for my annual £1 direct debits to get cashback switches...

For my TSB switch these 2 direct debits were switched over, but I also set up two new ones with them again once my TSB switch completed, just to make sure I definitely get the TSB cashback. Both new £1 payments have since been debited from my new TSB account so hopefully all will be fine.

Small Direct Debit still seems to be working so my question is can I set up two future direct debit payments just with Small Direct Debit from & would they be classed as two separate direct debits or would it be best to set up a second separate one & if so, who else does annual £1 direct debits?

    Cheers
  • I've set up gocardless myself for my "tutoring" business. I pay myself a £1 direct debit which transfers from my chase burner account to my main account. I use paypal for the other and buy something i'm going to buy anyway from ebay.

Two DDs set up to Small Direct Debit have appeared as two separate direct debits for all my bank switches
