Multiple switches to the same bank query

Hi everyone, I’m looking to take advantage of current switch freebies (free cash) and have made one application from one redundant sole account to a new sole account. I assume if I have another redundant account (different bank from the first), there is nothing stopping me switching this one to the new bank and similarly taking advantage of the free cash? Similarly if my wife has a solo account, she can do the same? Thanks.

Don't assume anything; what do the terms and conditions of the switch offer say?

Why would you assume that the new bank will pay out twice?

Similarly if my wife has a solo account, she can do the same?
That is a rather more viable route to a second incentive....

Ok, so it states “ If you've previously received a switcher incentive from NatWest Group since 01 January 2020, you will not be eligible for this offer. ” in which case, even if switching from a completely different account, it will not honour to me as the switcher a second time BUT if my wife switches hers, this should be accepted…?

As long as it’s not a joint account and the Ts & Cs don’t limit it to one reward per household.

It really is down to the terms and conditions of the switch offer. For example, Nationwide's recent switch offer allowed one solo and one joint switch reward so three in total. Unless I missed it, no other bank switch I know of has allowed this as they always limited it to one per person, certainly the current NatWest/RBS/Ulster Bank is limited to one payment per person.

It is the NatWest group I’m looking at which from your comment suggests ok if there is one for me, one for my wife but won’t stretch to a joint application.

Your wife is a different person with different bank accounts.  She would switch her bank account to a new bank account in her name.  You having accounts or receiving switch bonuses is not be relevant.

One for a solo account for yourself and one for a solo account for your wife, assuming neither of you have received any switch offers since January 2020, would be fine, you should both receive a switch payment.

If one of you switched into a joint account they may also be eligible for a payment but the terms are not clear that if one of the joint account holders has already received a payment it would allow the other account holder to receive one also.

    Please Note

    • You won’t be eligible to earn £200 if you’ve taken advantage of a cash switcher offer from NatWest,
Royal Bank of Scotland plc or Ulster Bank since 1 January 2020.
    • Joint accounts will only be eligible for one payment.
    • You can only benefit from this offer once. This means that even if you successfully open more than one eligible
account and meet the conditions of this offer more than once, you’ll only receive one £200 payment.

What is definitely not possible is to receive more than one payment per person so for simplicity stick to solo accounts and avoid any joint switches.

best to check the T&Cs which i think you have! I missed TSB switching bonus because although i applied in time  it took so long for them to open account offer had ended - i called them and they said if i closed the account i could apply again next time they run a switching bonus and could get it - in this case it was definitely receiving the bonus not opening the account that excludes you from cashing in. not sure if that's always so.
