Well, multiple places on the internet are wrong.2stixoftwixes said:
According to multiple places on the Internet it needs to have insurance in place to tax a carTadleyBaggie said:
You believe wrong, the requirement to have valid insurance was removed several years ago.2stixoftwixes said:
I believe that is wrong!Car_54 said:It doesn't need to be insured in order to tax it, so your plan sounds fine.
https://www.moneysupermarket.com/car-insurance/can-you-tax-a-car-without-insurance/The requirement to show proof of insurance when taxing a car was dropped about 2012. I bought a new car yesterday, and it had been taxed earlier in my name by the dealer. At that point I hadn’t insured it, and DVLA didn’t ask.
There are two insurance requirements. The registered keeper (OP’s daughter) must get the car insured ASAP unless it’s SORNed.And separately, anyone driving it needs to be insured, which it seems the OP will be.0 -

Great , now just the insurance then!0

You could get a quote to insure it for your daughter as the main driver and you as a named driver, then it would be insured fully comp when you were driving it. NB Do not be tempted to do it the other way round (her as a named driver, you as the main driver) - this is known as "fronting" and could result in the policy being null and void.0

You might presume wrong so definitely worth checking. Generally this clause only applies if the vehicle already has a standalone insurance policy in place. The driving other cars normally doesn't apply if the car has no insurance cover in force at all. You might find the current owner allows you to have their policy remaining in place for the duration of the drive home so your driving other cars extension would cover it.2stixoftwixes said:"may also drive with the owners permission a motor car that is not owned by or registered to, or hired, rented or leased to, them"
I would presume this means I will be insured to drive her car homeRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.1 -
Just remember that once she passes test, that premium will go up by a very large amount 👍prettyandfluffy said:You could get a quote to insure it for your daughter as the main driver and you as a named driver, then it would be insured fully comp when you were driving it.
