they have suddenly done a lot of reviews and asked for bank statements from a lot of people all at the same time

It's suppose to be targeted, not random, but how true that really is is anyone's guess.

Do they ask for all bank account statements or just the main bank account?
They need to see statements for all bank accounts.
Going to be fun if they get around to mine.
5 current accounts open, 2 just closed and 2 savings accounts.
Would you need to provide the closed accounts, I mean if you had £20K in each and closed it a week before the review then id expect someone to ask where’s the £40K but in reality if they decide to do a review in July, your two closed accounts will have been closed for 4 months…

How far do they go back?
Proud to have dealt with our debts
    Starting debt 2005 £65.7K.
    Current debt ZERO.

From what I read I believe it's 4 months  (stand to be corrected) but no doubt will request more iif they do find anything untoward.
All they are doing is an fishing expedition, if they suspected possible overpayment / fraud there are departments who handle that.

The target is 2 million checks. With around 5 million on UC that means quite a few people will have their claims checked.

    2000 staff taking 5 years
    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/fighting-fraud-in-the-welfare-system/fighting-fraud-in-the-welfare-system--2

Create a new, dedicated 2,000 strong team to deliver targeted case reviews of existing Universal Credit claims. This new team will review the entitlements and circumstances of Universal Credit cases that are at risk of being incorrect, including suspicious cases which entered our system during the height of the pandemic. During the pandemic, once we had made sure we were able to support everyone who needed it, we undertook retrospective action to reinstate missed checks relating to housing, children, and identity in around 900,000 of the riskiest claims. We are building on this by conducting a more comprehensive and detailed review of all the major drivers of fraud and error across a wider range of cases and we expect to review over 2 million cases over the next 5 years. The review will also generate intelligence on new and emerging ways fraud is entering the welfare system which we will use to further drive out fraud. This review is expected to stop around £2 billion of losses due to fraud and error over the next five years.

Lol, how many mobile phones do you have HSB?
Hope it's  not more than two or others than the DWP might want to take a look.

Personally I've not had anything about any review yet, but following my last 'get the disabled into work' meeting I am getting a lot more on my journal about training courses and even 'hot jobs' which of course are totally at odds with my conditions. All "If you are interested" so keeping someone in a job sending them out. (Now, I might ask if I can have that messaging job and do it from home, at my own times).
