Dvd Recorder For Tv With Built In Freeview

I recently joined this for when our daughter is overseas. Before she went, she used the instant messenger and after, i noted there was an option to retain or delete all she had typed. I deleted it.
Now she has gone overseas and we type. I would like to be able to retain our text and print off as we cover many subjects in 40 mins. The trouble is, I can't find the route to view history/text from instant messages as I would like to print it off.
Could anyone please tell me how I access it please. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
yes I was telling you you can record one programme to your hard drive and watch another already recorded on it
On messenger - if you highlight your daughters name in the list of contacts and right click your mouse you should get a menu appear and in the menu is a view option where you can view message history. Not sure theres an option to print it but you can copy it into a word processing documentJohn0 -
i read the OP and immediately thought of course it won't record freeview unless it too is digital .. but given some of the answers I am wondering if my assumption is wrong.
In olden days you had aerial->recorder->tV and could easily record terrestial while watching another channel. However nowadays with a similar arrangement you can still record the terrestial channels but assuming the digital tuner is in the TV this setup will not allow you to record it.
Can a feed be taken either from the SCART or the red/yellow/white sockets (I am sure there is a more technical name for them) that would allow a non digital recording device to record a digital signal being generated by a digital TV?

Ivan,
You can record terrestial analogue signal onto a digital DVR but why would you want to watch or record terrestial? All of those analogue programs are broadcast in digital."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Hi Everyone,
Been reading this thread with interest as I have not long since bought a twin tuner PVR and seperate DVD recorder.
I've a couple of questions - is it possible to record something onto DVD from the freeview channels whilst watching another digital channel? Can recordings from the pvr be transferred to disk?
The tv is just a old crt and DVD recorder doesn't have freeview built in.
Thanks.0 -
Ivan, That really depends on what equipment you have what is posible and how best to set up. In order of preference, I would choose HDMI, composite, scart then S video for connection. With an analogue recorder I suggest you take the digital signal via SCART from AV out on your TV.
On my system I can record an analogue, sky or digital signal whilst watching any of the above."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

You will not be able to record anything other than what is on your TV with an analogue DVR. Any non-scrambled signal on your PVR can be downloaded to disk, simply play the program and record what is on screen."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Thanks Missile,
Just one more question if I may.
If I had a DVD recorder with freeview built in, could I then record straight to disc from freeview whilst watching another freeview channel through the PVR?
Thanks again.0 -
If you route the ariel signal through the DVR you should be able to record any channel whilst watching a.n.other digital or pre recorded material from PVR. A better option would be to get a PVR with a DVR see here > http://www.digitaldirect.co.uk/products3/index.asp?x=2&mfid=6&pcid=27&referredby=STEAK_GOOGLE&gclid=CKSciabdxZACFQJrMAod40bBPg"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
