Beautician dispute

Apologies in advance if it sounds trivial, but I’m really keen to get MSM take on this situation.

I am 8.5 months pregnant and I scheduled waxing + pregnancy massage with local beautician. I’m new to the salon, paid £40 deposit.

Due to hospital admission last week I had to reschedule and we agreed that we move appointment to today and shorten it to waxing only.

Upon arrival I learned that bikini waxing ultra doesn’t mean full wax but quite the opposite, which was completely unexpected and not fit for purpose for me…
There was no manager or anyone to speak to, therapist was apologetic and phoned the owner twice but without resolution. I asked for a refund of the deposit but was told they can only look into this tomorrow.

Feel very disappointed as this very little spare time I have for myself these days was lost on completely wasted trip and don’t even know if I’ll get my money back.

What are my options here? Thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts.

I don't profess to understand what the opposite of a full wax is, but to what extent is the exact scope of the waxing service documented in writing?
  • Good question, it isn’t, I just double checked their website to make sure I’m not losing my mind and there’s no description against services. I have spoken to them few times on the phone when re- booking and made clear that this service is required before planned c section (so full wax would be implied).

I'm glad I'm not alone!  Do they implant hair follicles instead?

And why would a full wax be a requirement ahead of a c-section?  I thought the opposite was true, that you weren't supposed to shave or wax in the period leading up to the birth?

It's going to come down to how well the service was described.  I'd await their call tomorrow and see what they say.  Would you be happy if they held your deposit and allowed you to use it towards something after you've given birth?
  • No follicles implants to my knowledge.

Each hospital has their own policy. In mine 2 weeks before the planned c section is fine, I checked it with my midwife.

I think you are going to have to enlighten us on what an "ultra" is? I too cannot workout what the complete opposite of removing everything is if it isn't gluing extra hair on. Not that I spend much time study waxing price lists but most tend to go up in levels, bikini, Brazilian, Hollywood and equally prices so whilst you may not know the exact difference between them it should indicate the level of work involved.

I appreciate there are time differences in the amount of time it takes to different levels of waxing depending on how "extreme" it is but not sure why the same allocated time couldn't have been used towards the level of baldness you'd hoped to achieve.
  • To bring this example home- imagine booking follicle transplant and upon arrival learning that they will only transplant it around your ears and not the whole head.

I'm not sure I follow, but it's not really important that I do.  What's important is how the treatment you booked was described when you booked it, and if that differs from reality when you arrived for the procedure itself.  Did it, or is the error here one of your assumption?  Or perhaps a mix of both?

If the procedure wasn't correctly described, and assuming your deposit was for that procedure, then you have a right to cancel the contract and have your deposit returned.  If it's less clear-cut than that, we either need more information to help advise, or it's down to negotiating a mutually agreeable outcome, such as putting the deposit towards another treatment at a later date, perhaps.

Wait and see what they say tomorrow.  You might be worrying over nothing.

So you paid for and were expecting the full monty (all hair removed) and instead you had actually paid for a fluffy pink heart in the middle of your VJ???!?!?!??!

Could they not have just done the full wax instead and you paid the extra?!?

Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Dunno about all places but it's not just a matter of the amount of money but time... whole hog requires a double slot. Not sure if it's just the local place or common but their only certain staff do the more extensive options whereas they all do bikini.

Certainly seems like they should have been able to do something with the time/monies paid rather than leaving it full bush.
