New iPads are likely to launch next month/in a few weeks time. May not be the ones you want to buy but could push down the price of the older models.
She needs to get this issue sorted or move banks, it's bizarre they can't tell her what the limit is, like I said I have spent thousands with the Halifax in one go with absolutely no issue
  • OP are you using a debit or credit card for this? And you say you are certain you have enough money as you have been budgeting for this, can you see you have more than enough in your bank balance? And what type of account are you trying to spend from?

I had a conversation in December with Halifax about spending on my debit card as I was buying a new-to-me car. They said I needed to phone them beforehand to clear the amount. When I phoned again they told me that I had been given the wrong info! However they said it would depend if I went over my spending limit, when I asked what that was they refused to tell me!

I paid for the car using my debit card- it had to be very much more than an iPad- no problems. However there is some secret spending limit which is known only to them.......

Nowhere on that page does it suggest a limit on debit card payments

Strikes me as bizarre advice to suggest buying something cheaper as a solution when you have enough money.
There must be more to the story that has been told. No bank would decline a payment for this reason assuming funds are there, the card is valid and the merchant is legit, they arent social workers.
They aren’t social workers, but they are adamant that there is a daily spending limit which I keep going over, though they won’t tell me what it is.

The only thing I can possibly think is that I had a joint account with my mother. She passed away last year. She didn’t really have capacity and wasn’t paying any of her bills. Some allowed me or other family to pay, but some would only deal with her. She passed away with some accounts over a year in arrears. That said, all the companies agreed I wasn’t responsible for this and that her debts died with her
Are you spending into the thousands every day?

If not them someone is spouting 💩

Simple way round it, make it 1st purchase of day.

  • I've had countless problems with Halifax and trying to spend my own money, my cards are repeatedly declined, usually it's just contactless payments but had some online ones too.

As with other people theres enough money in my account but get a warning through the app about being over my spend limit i.e. £65 contactless payments in a supermarket is over my limit, which is set at £100 and is the only time I've used my card all week.

I've ended up using a different bank or my credit card now as Halifax are too unreliable

I find it a bizarre world where a bank says "You've gone over your limit but we're not telling you what that limit is. Try buying something cheaper."
