Hello All,
I’m after some advice, I believe I am owed some interest from the tax office after a historical PPI payment from the 20-21 tax year.
Little back story, I had received a couple of these back interest payments via a company called Blue Range Ltd a company specialising in getting these payments back but taking a massive chuck, after I’d received these payments I called HMRC and asked that they be taken off my account as my agent, fast forward to the beginning of this year and I received a letter from the taxman stating that there was another interest payment for the 20-21 tax year and did I want Blue Range Ltd to continue to receive the payment, of course I didn’t I’d already asked them to be removed, so I called HMRC and they advised that I send in my own R40, which I did.
This week I received a letter back from the taxman stating that due to a rule change, they need more information regarding the initial PPI payment so that they can make sure the interest is calculated correctly before they investigate further.
So, my problem is I’ve tried contacting Blue Range Ltd, but whatever time of day their number just rings and rings, no answer. I’ve tried going over old bank statements to see if I can spot any payments from PPI that might relate but no luck there either.
Is there anyway I can get the information the taxman is after, other than through Blue Range Ltd (as they must have located a PPI payment that interest was still outstanding), I’m also a bit angry with the taxman as they know there is outstanding tax to pay me back but due to this new rule change they now want this extra information.
Any help will be gladly appreciated I don’t want to lose a couple of hundred pounds that I am legally owed.
Thanks Everyone
Richard

Can you clarify, did you originally engage Blue Range Ltd to get a PPI refund or was it to get a tax refund relating to the statutory interest paid alongside a PPI refund?0 -
Hi,
Blue Range were only involved in the tax refund relating to the statutory interest paid.0 -

Also this seems very unusual and doesn't really tie in with the rest of what's happened.
If HMRC already have the evidence why do you need to get it again 🤔.
Was it really HMRC who sent you an unsolicited letter 🤔fast forward to the beginning of this year and I received a letter from the taxman stating that there was another interest payment for the 20-21 tax year and did I want Blue Range Ltd to continue to receive the paymentSomething just doesn't add up with all of this.
Finally have you calculated the additional refund due? Not the extra tax deducted but the refund itself?
Not everyone understands how interest is ultimately taxed and it's easy to misunderstand the impact extra income will have even if tax has been deducted at source.

Yeah it is the tax office, I’ve called them from their number off their website, they suggest I send my own R40 in, if I wanted to make my own claim.0

Ok, well if you are getting joy from them your other option is to contact the companies who actually paid you the interest (and deducted the tax). That’s my issue I’ve not got any record of that (lost paperwork), I also don’t know why the tax office has introduced this new rule of having to prove again that a PPI payment has been paid and tax incorrect taken, it’s already been done by them, so sure they like you say already have evidence of this transaction, I can only think the new rule has been introduced to put barriers in the way of claiming what is already mine…0

HMRC seem to struggle to provide timely replies to queries they have been sent so to get something out of the blue like that is a little odd to say the least.0 -
I will do, I’m just about to start work, I’ll post the letters from the HMRC once I’ve scanned them later today.1

Are you 100% sure this Blue Range company hasn't submitted another tax return for you to get their cut? Depending what you signed with them, simply telling HMRC you don't want HMRC to deal with them any more doesn't void any contract that you have with Blue Range0

Dazed_and_C0nfused...
Sorry about the late reply been very busy working...
Please find attached both letters from the tax office the first one to inform me that Blue Range had submitted another claim for PPI tax and the second after I had spoken with them (tax office) on the phone and submitted my own R40 form, to which they said that I needed to calculate the simple interest and also provide the information from who I received the payment from in the first place (they should have this information as they have taken tax from it)... I myself don't have this information nor can I calculate simple interest on a payment I don't have the info on.... So frustrating and annoying, I can't even contact Blue Range as their number just rings and rings.
