Having recently been made redundant and having a student loan, I found this site amazingly beneficial, so thank you for that.

I am seeking a tip on unlocking my mobile, the phone is my own, 12 months contract ended in March this year, Orange costs on day calls are the same as TMobile, therefore am switching to PAYG - TMobile quote £15.00 to unlock, is this the only option I have. £15.00 is more than 25% of my Job Seekers Allowance!

Thank you.

It rather depends on the phone. Quite a lot of phones can be unlocked using free code generators - have a look at http://www.uniquephones.com/forums/ for a selection of discussions on the subject, or http://www.trycktill.com/eng/ (a Swedish site, this is the English languageversion). It seems that most Nokias are a doddle, wheras some Siemens require you to open the casing and cut things on the circuit board!

I've successfully done a number of Nokia 3510s. Failing this you could reduce the cost from £15 down to £10 or even £5 at a small electronics shop or market stall.

Thanks folks. The phone is a Sony Ericsson T68i, I have found a site on the net that will unlock for £3 but request credit card details etc., I may just give that a go.

    Thanks again.
