Dual sim - which 2 providers?

My phone has dual sim capability,  how can I use that to get better national coverage?  Two inexpensive sims that use different networks so the poor-signal areas for one may be covered by the other.  Suggestions?

  • I use EE and o2 in this way. I decided which networks by noticing times when my main sim (EE) didn't have service and doing a network search to see which network tended to be available.

EE & O2 for me as well.

EE in the form of 1pMobile
O2 as an ancient 1,2,3 PAYG SIM I use as a backup.

  • I use three and RWG (EE).
Just make sure if you use smaller providers, not to pick ones which uses the same main provider.
    For example tesco,giffgaff use 02.
    IDmobile and smarty use three.
1p mobile and RWG use EE,
Asda mobile and lebara use vodafone

I use 1pmobile (EE) as my main sim and three payg as my back up. Mainly because I only want a std payg for my 2nd sim and three are the only other provider I can get WiFi calling with for my Motorola phone, we don’t have a landline anymore.

Most people would have a primary sim and backup sim. So you would want good coverage at home on the primary sim and a suitable allowance, then a very basic deal on the second sim. Remember that the second sim will have a different phone number but if you have a 4g/5g signal you can use the same WhatsApp account.

Only if one of them is an eSim, as Apple have never produced a handset with more than one physical sim slot. Same with Google it seems; I would otherwise give the Pixel serious consideration.

Both my slots have deals no longer available to new customers and I have a third sim to go in should one of the two come to an end. Finding a provider/tariff that will issue an eSim seems problematic in the UK, which might be why Apple haven’t removed the physical slot on phones produced for Europe, but have in the US.

They actually have, but have only sold it in some far east markets. https://support.apple.com/en-hk/108898

Lebara (uses Vodaphone network) at 10GB pm and O2 standard PAYG because I never really use the second sim so much, though experimenting with SPUSU which works off the EE network (instead of 02) because I never send picture messages/MMS from the 2nd sim (and picture messaging isn't possible with SPUSU) and it looks like a good deal https://www.spusu.co.uk/spusu1special?
