That was just my point Joe. It would not be economical in this country, it might be in the US with a much bigger population AND much less intrusive rules about livestock husbandry from the state.

Actually, if you'd found the link, followed it and read the text you would know that the site only exists because the USA has much stricter and intrusive laws than the UK.

The company making jackets out of horse leather wasn't set up because people wanted to buy jackets made from skins of horses that died naturally. It was set up because horse leather is very good for clothing but the USA law forbids the killing of horses just for meat or the skins, you have to wait for them to die for another reason.

If you wanted a "free range" sofa you could, I daresay, get one hand made here - but don't expect DFS prices for it though !

The price wasn't an issue, the original question was "can you but a leather sofa made from animals that have died naturally" . The answer to that is, probably not, but people have started making jackets from that so one day you may be able to buy sofas too.

Not a silly question, nor a childish one.

Look at it this way, for thousands of years man wanted to fly, then someone did and eventually someone flew to the moon anmd back

BUT, Orvile Wright died in 1948 and Neil Armstrong was born in 1930. So for a period of 18 years the first man to fly and the first man to set foot on the moon were both alive at the same time.

In less than two life times man went from not being able to fly to walking on the moon. So is it silly or childish to think man could go from making a jacket out of something to making a sofa out of it?

and was there anywhere in my post that you picked up on that stated that I was talking about DFS prices?

Seriously you have jumped on a band wagon that didn't need jumping on. You still have no idea why I asked this question nor as geordie joe pointed out asked the specifics of the animals in questions nor where I would consider making a purchase from- you just tell me to get in the real world and wonder why I get defensive and ask you not to reply.

Then... you tell me the question was something that a school child would ask. I find this completely offensive and you were and continue to be the one 'mud slinging'. I asked you nicely not to reply as none of your responses are actually answering my question, you are just continually criticising my original post. Which to be honest I don't need. And as you and your fellow posters bar a few on this board all appear to have the higher ground I will not be posting any further questions here. The original question was posed by a 59 year old person who has numerous degrees... far from a schoolchild so perhaps may I suggest to you that your comments were insulting as you didn't ask for any clarification on the subject matter.

MSE on the whole is a friendly, you on the otherhand have created an unfriendly atmosphere ensuring that the veiled insults you hide in your posts are personally offensive.

Honestly Ophie, I have found that the best way to use this prticular board is never to engage with certain people who are regulars but whose only mission in life seems to be to upset as many contributers as possible - possibly they are under the impression that this constitutes debate. Just flick through to see if there are answers which help you, and then forget it. At one point I was going to leave MSE altogether because certain people had hurt and angered me so much that I was actually crying, but there are really nice, friendly and open minded peope here who actually want to help each other and are interested in other points of view. Don't waste your time and emotional energy with the bigots and self promoting idiots, you will hurt yourself and not change them.
