Cruelty Free Leather

Options
I have posted this on 3 boards....

The Arms, I wanna buy it/do it and here. Hope that someone can help me.

I am trying to find some leather from animals who have died of old age not killed for meat. Well ideally I am trying to find a sofa made from this leather. Does anyone know if such a product actually exists? If so... could you point me in the right direction of where to find it and buy it?

Ta!

  • Personally I doubt you'll find this. It just isn't economical to keep an animal until it dies of old age to get it's skin.

Most animals are kept until they are ready to eat, or come to the end of their useful life. Stop giving enough milk, laying eggs etc. Or it becomes too costly to keep them alive.

If you want leather goods you'll just have to accept that someone ended the animals life early.
  • best cruelty free leather.... don't buy leather. can't get more cruelty free than that.

I appreciate that this page is not about sofas

    http://www.aeroleatherclothing.com/webapp/aeroleather/servlet/AeroViewPage?page=aboutus

    but this extract

"After expensive research, Aero managed to source the only tannery based in the States still capable of producing this unique hide to the original specifications, although today quality hides suitable for this type of tanning are still very scarce and so availability is very limited due to the fact that all our chrome tanned leather is sourced from "natural death" horses with no slaughter involved"

at least gives hope that there is somebody, somewhere, tanning 'natural death' hides. I thought that if you get no other leads then it might be worth getting in touch with them?

"Cruelty free leather" - this post is headed !

An animal that died of "old age" - riddled with cancer perhaps, or crippled with arthritis, struggling for breath with heart/lung disease - this all assumes that the farmer wasn't prosecuted for cruelty in keeping an animal in such a state - and this is "better" than using leather from a humanely slaughtered animal ??

Come on ! get real !

Not all animals die like that, some just "pop off" peacefully without any warning.

I also think there's a huge difference between an animal that is put down because it is suffering and one that it put down so someone can eat it and wear it's skin.

    Oh bite me.

Step off your moral high ground and stop quoting aspects of my post you feel justify you to be rude.

Most people will put an animal down if it is riddled with cancer which would still be considered as cruelty free. And you know for a fact that the meat that you may eat (I don't know if you eat meat) is from an animal that didn't have cancer and all the afore mentioned diseases. So please... don't preach to me and tell me to get real. If you don't have anything useful to add, don't bother.

I am not being rude to anyone ! If you think that is the case by my pointing out the basic facts of how animals die - I'm sorry, but it just shows how deluded you are !

Most animals do not die "peacefully". The humans that do so are supported by drugs/doctors/medical care. As I said - get real.

The question was not asked for me. So again, you have made assumptions as you have done throughout both responses to me. Please don't tell me I am deluded, it grates. Thank you.

So could I ask you nicely to not bother replying as you are boring me now.
