PAC and number transfer PAYG SIM

Options
hi, I know that I can text to get my PAC but if I order a new PAYG SIM first, then get the PAC for the old number to move on to the new SIM, is this a quick process? What's involved? Just thinking with certain providers it might be a nightmare to get this done with.
Anyone have experience of any networks that have been easy to do this with, maybe online?
thanks

Recently used PACs to transfer from Plusnet to 1pMobile, and O2 to IDMobile. Both numbers transferred within 48 hours.

Just don't do the switch in the run up to the weekend. If you send in your pac on say a Thursday it will probably be Monday before the switch takes place. If the switch was scheduled to go through on the Friday and something went wrong then nothing will happen over the weekend.

I always aim to do mine on a Tuesday as any problems can be sorted during the working week.

Most networks will have a website option to enter your porting details. The basics are number to be transferred, pac to prove you have the authority and current phone number of the new sim. Sometimes they will also ask for the sim number.

thanks! if at the weekend then is it better to just pick up a SIM in a shop then notify the network so nothing is being sent out?

thanks! did you get the new sims first then do the transfer, or just do the transfer first?
  • If you are swapping to a new network then it's a good idea to run the new SIM for a few days just to make sure that it connects OK and the coverage meets your needs before you submit the PAC code.

Means you will be paying for two services for a few days but not a major cost.

Also reduces the risk of your number being ported and then the sim not arriving and you needing to have a replacement sent out.

Got both new SIMs - checked that they were working in our phones with their supplied numbers - then used PACs. One phone I had ,was dual SIM ,so I just waited until the original PN SIM stopped working. In the other I just managed with the "new" number until I got a message that the transfer was complete.
