Uber eats insurance

Hello
im thinking of getting a 125cc i have full car license and not done my cbt yet (but I will do soon)and wanting to start earning some extra money delivering the food. I have never been doing so got a few questions.

can i buy a moped and purchase a standard SDC insurance as im only wanting to work as a courier for maximum 2-3 days?

how does pay as you go delivery insurance work?

do i need to buy yearly business insurance for a 125cc willing to work only few days?

while im not doing deliveries can I use moped to commute to and from work?

Thank you guys for help

If you use the bike for work, you need business insurance, even if its only for a few minutes. Penalty is six points and at least £300,

BTW the police seem pretty hot on this, and obviously you're highly visible.

    Well a 125 is not a moped.

But you need proper insurance no matter what.

    No they don't.

They have a choice, they can either buy SDP/SDPC and then use a PAYG Hire & Reward insurer to top up their policy. There are some that charge by the hour, day week or month.

Alternatively they can buy a full Hire & Reward policy and forgo the SDP policy.

Business insurance does not include using your vehicle to deliver goods.

PS. the by the hour solutions require you to turn it on/off at the start and end of your shift. If you "forget" to turn it on then you will effectively be riding without insurance.

Fair enough. I was guilty of using 'business' in a very loose way.

although, don't some of the delivery companies let you use their insurance policy to cover the time while you are delivering?

I believe so, basically their own flexible insurance. Uber Eats Driver page however just links to the normal PAG sellers.

This seems the common way to go about it.

Insure your bike for SDP or SDP&C if you plan on using it to take you to your normal workplace.

Then insure it for the delivery "business" with a separate and specific carriage of goods and food delivery policy.
But you must have SDP/SDP&C first.

As mentioned, some of these are app based pay as you go like Zego.

Most food delivery companies will give you free personal injury and free liability cover, that's about it.

Some parcel delivery companies will offer this carriage of goods insurance as part of the deal (ie, it comes out of your pay), but I haven't noticed any food delivery companies doing it yet.

It will depend on how committed you are to doing it and how many hours a week your doing... PAYG is clearly much more expensive per hour than an annual policy but is good if you are just testing the waters or it's a very ad hoc thing for you etc. If you are doing 9 hours a day 6 days a week and committed to it for the next year or more then an annual policy would be much cheaper.

It's a bit more integrated that "turn it on and off". Well, Zeog is:
"With Zego’s pay-as-you-go insurance, you only pay for the cover you need, just for the time that you need it. We are partnered with work providing platforms to cover you for the exact time you are on shift. Your work provider will let us know when you start and stop making your deliveries, so you can get cover for the exact time that you need it."

So, a Gibraltar-based insurance company's system is "integrated" with that of a dodgy food-delivery company.

    What could possibly go wrong?
