Travel insurance

Options

We booked a cruise with friends last year departing early May this year.  At the time they had annual travel insurance. It’s due for renewal on 21 February 2024.  However, when ringing to renew they declared that my friend was awaiting diagnoses for hip pain and has a hospital appointment in April. The insurance company  have now refused to renew the insurance until diagnoses.  The cruise has been paid for in full.   They are now to be left with no cover. Can anyone advise please?

Insurers do not like the unknown.

Can you get a private diagnosis at BUPA. I had  a suspect hip -  rang BUPA, appointment in a few days took a X ray before I saw the consultant. £225 well spent. A bit of physio followed.

It's ultimately the risk of an annual policy, the commitment from both sides is only for those 12 months and both sides are free to walk away at renewal.

They can shop around to see if someone else will take them but are likely to be excluded cover for the hip and anything connected.

One of the companies that specialise in pre-existing medical conditions may offer insurance. Alternatively, get cover that excludes that condition and accept the risk.

Depending on any diagnosis in April, they may be abke ti get insurance after that.

Insurance  can't assess the risk if they do know what the condition is.

It is a risk when booking a holiday for a period after your travel insurance finishes

Once they have a diagnosis things could change.
