Lwrca back pay??

Hello . I have been awarded lwrca . I have been asking my work coaches for about 2 years to send me the form but they kept giving me excuses as there busy there's a backlog . I was then advised to send in sick notes to trigger a form to be sent to me it never happened until August 2023 I filled in form had a phone assessment got awarded lwrca a week later . Question is will I get it back dated to when I first submitted a sick note 8th march 2022. Or only from my phone assessment thanks .

The LCWRA can be backdated to 14 weeks from the date of the first fit note (provided you supplied details of continuous fit notes). So, the extra money should be due from the fourth full UC period after you reported the health condition.

Working out these arrears takes a while for UC to calculate and will be paid separately to your ongoing LCWRA award.

  • Thank you for your reply . So hopefully it will be backdated from June 2022. Yes been sending in sick notes since march 2022. Due to health getting worse due to brain operations.. how long shall I give them to sort the back pay out ? Thank you .

It will be backdated to the date you first submitted a fit note providing there are no gaps in the medical evidence. If there are gaps, the award will run from the start of the last continuous period that medical evidence was provided.
There is then a 3 month waiting period called the relevant period for which you will not receive payment of the LCWRA element. Assuming you have provided continuous medical evidence with no gaps from June 2022, it would be backdated until then and paid from Sept 2022, 3 months later.
