If the OP is going to the Maldives, or another Islamic country, I wonder if something like this was displayed in the (unnamed by OP) hotel copy, but just missed.

There is variance of policies towards alcohol in respect of tourists etc. in Islamic countries.

In my observations they become stricter as you move from West to East - OK, that's a generalisation - but alcohol is usually not much of an issue for visitors in North African countries which were former French Colonial, however at the other end of the scale is Saudi Arabia.

I once met a UK military figure who had been on detached service in Saudi - the British community made their own hooch within their compound using ingredients brought in via the Diplomatic Bag route.
