Retirement Regrets
Comments
-
I have sometimes regretted "retiring" (in 2018, aged 53). Initially I did some consulting on a part time basis but have not done any paid work now since November 2021.
The regret was more the loss of a career which i spent years building rather than work per se. It just seemed a bit of a waste of skills.
Financially, I could have retired 4-5 years earlier and I now worry about how we will spend enough money to avoid a big inheritance tax bill. First world problems.
I run, swim and cycle and enter the occasional triathlon.
According to garmin, in the last 12 months I walked 4.7 million steps.
I used to be Marine_life .....but I can't connect to my old account4 -
I understand this. I am 55 shortly, however in a job that shall we say, I am not pleased to end my career on. I have become a magistrate. Very rewarding. Maybe that would be a good option?Early_Retire_Free said:I have sometimes regretted "retiring" (in 2018, aged 53). I get where you are coming from, with the waste of skills comment. Not that I was all that skilled! But I pretty much retired around 50 and sometimes feel that I could have a really good 50s career before winding down. But I also felt at the time like I couldn't go on and had reached the limit of what I could achieve. That was burnout, in hindsight, but I received no support and that was that, working life done.Early_Retire_Free said:I have sometimes regretted "retiring" (in 2018, aged 53).
