in Gardening
So I was looking around earlier for a garden layout planner after realising I have tried to up my growing game this year and I am at a complete loss where I will put everything in my garden and I came across https://my-garden.gardena.com/int which helps you make a picture of your space and plan it better. Im not associated etc just found it and thought it would be useful ....... so I have made a layout of my garden and how I plan to lay things out this year and wanted to share it with people in hopes that
a) others might join in
b) might offer suggestions about something I could do better / better placement etc
c) we can all just have a nose at other peoples gardens because we are gardeners and can appreciate them.
So this is my garden
- The path to the right runs alongside my bathroom house and the grey box to the left is my husbands shed / workshop.
- The area with all the boxes in the top middle will be a fenced off area for my veg growing so dogs do not munch their way through my harvest like last year. Will have woodchip put here.
- My deck will have a patio apple tree as well as a blueberry bush and I would of added my rocking seat and parasol for sunny days but figured a layout like this was best. To the right of it is an empty small bed which I might use for flowers and no idea what to put in the little rectangle tubs on the deck yet - maybe radish.
- In the bottom right (blue building) is my greenhouse with a large raised bed next to it full of strawberries.
- Potato bags run all along the bottom fence and I will also be making a flower bed there too,
- Bottom left I want to build two small raised beds with an arch which leads down and around the back of the shed which I hope to turn into a wildlife area.
- outside the shed I hope to make two more flower beds as I really need to encourage more pollinators into the garden.
I have lawn edging to put around the grass as well and various bird feeders to dot around the garden too.
Fingers crossed it will be quite productive once I actually get around to planting!
Hope anyone who gives this a try and enjoys and Id love to see others join in if they feel like it x

I love herbs in the garden so there's plenty for cooking but they also smell so nice when it rains. If I had my druthers I wouldn't use wood chips (cat magnet) but put in camomile and creeping thyme. Begonias are nice for planters (even if I've never had much success). And lavender....lots and lots of lavender of all sorts and colours.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. Looks pretty and well organised.
Remember you can grow beans over the arch.
I agree with Brie that lavenders attract a lot of bees, butterflies and other insects. English lavender and Hidcote especially.
Herbs too. Mostly small and can be dried they can fit in a flower bed, cut and dried.
Is your wildlife area in sunshine? Have you included the sun direction in your choice of veg, fruit patches?
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Very interesting. We had hard landscaping done in our garden last year following building work, and are just starting planning and planting. I was looking for something so that I could keep a record of what has gone in where, so bulbs and perennials don't get missed and ruined. Could be tricky to replicate the plan in full as it's a very irregular shape. I may have to split it into bits.

Already have parsley, basil, thyme and rosemary on kitchen windowsill.
I live on top of a welsh mountain and have no shade cover other than the shed and house. Garden gets sun in the morning and then from mid day the shadow from the house starts to creep over so the garden gets sun in the summer until about 5/6pm.
The wildlife garden will get early morning sun and until about 3pm ish when the shed fully shades it but its still light. It is also wind protected with the shed on one side, two fences and a stone wall.
Have considered the sun especially with greenhouse placement. Learnt that the hard way and use to have it at the bottom near the shed and during the heatwave a few years back everything just got roasted in there.
