Annual travel insurance runs out while on holiday

Hi All
Excited to be going to Egypt.  Have been organising the family's travel insurance and extended our Annual European Insurance to include Egypt.  Have discovered the insurance runs out 3 days before we get back.
I have called the insurance company and they cannot extend the insurance cover, they also cannot start the insurance whilst we are already abroad (to cover the last 3 days) so from their point of view I will need to buy complete cover for this holiday and be double insured!
I have contacted someone who does insurance to start when your abroad but as this is specialist cover it is the same cost as being double insured!
Does anyone have any bright ideas?

wouldn't this be covered by your renewal?  we have an annual policy which runs out before we go on a trip booked nearly 15 months back and I'm just renewing so there's continual cover.

The insurers I've used in the past consider an auto-renewal to be continuous cover and so the fact it's happening mid trip isn't a problem. Not something I've done any research on but a quick check at some of the big names suggest it's the same. It would be different were you to decline to renew and then buy a new policy from the same provider to get new customer pricing.

I'd double check with the insurer again as it could well be an error on behalf of the agent you spoke to.

If it isn't and they won't  extend the cover your only option is to buy a second policy and have paid for two policies for that week and half.
  • Yes, auto-renew should cover this. Ask to speak to a manager above the person in the call-centre.
