Pet insurance claim at renewal date

Hi my dog was injured 1 week before insurance auto renewal. He has been receiving ICU care which has exceeded his £7000 limit. He now needs transferred to a different vet hospital to have spinal surgery on Thursday with a further quote of £6500. Will this go through as a new claim and would his next years £7000 allowance be available for the surgery if he is on a lifetime policy?

I would expect it to be in the new year, but your insurers would be the best people to ask.
