Sellers estate agent calling buyers solicitor

Hello, I found out the sellers estate agent has been calling my solicitor asking for updates. - is this accepted practice or are they overstepping?

@GoogleMeNow trust me - I think most solicitors would probably be very grateful to not be spending ludicrous amounts of time speaking to or otherwise fending off agents. Indeed, I'd suggest that an awful lot of transactions would proceed faster if time wasn't needing to be taken on sometimes almost daily demands for "updates" and EAs telling clients things that are not in their power to promise, or sometimes even within their remit to comment on!
