Are you sure there was one?
Some utility companies apparently haven’t had stock for a while due to issues getting parts(suspect due to the Ukrainian issues) , and there are stories of new build developers not bothering to pass them on.0 -
Perhaps the vendor was one of the readers of the MSE Energy forum where the oft touted advice of 'throw it in the bin' has been actioned, showing what bad advice that is.

I've frequent the Energy forum, and I truly can't recall reading that being said, apart from as part of a flippant response to a some tin-foil-head folk who think smart meters are monitoring their every movement.Slinky said:Perhaps the vendor was one of the readers of the MSE Energy forum where the oft touted advice of 'throw it in the bin' has been actioned, showing what bad advice that is.
I have read a lot of "stick in the drawer" posts in response to people who don't understand why the need a smart meter, in recognition that the next owner of the house may want to monitor their usage.
Can you refer us to where this advice has been given recently?1 -
An in home display wasn't supplied with our meter due to shortages at the time and when they did finally send us one (after much chasing) it did not and has never worked. It has been replaced and reset many times but still does not connect to our meter. We have given up complaining to our utilities provider so it is in the loft. Perhaps your sellers had a similar issue. I would expect the utility company should be able to send you a new one if you let them know.0

Spoke to British Gas. They were laughing at the fact that Vendors have taken the display away with them - it's of no use to them.
British Gas will send me a new one.5
