Buyers lender have told them to change solicitor last minute

Hi all. We are selling our property and have been going through the sale process for about 3.5 months. Now at the stage where our buyers mortgage offer was about to be issued but we've been told their lender has asked them to change solicitor? Estate agent has confirmed this does happen sometimes. My question is - does this mean the conveyancing process will start from the beginning again with the new solicitor? Or will the new solicitor just take over where the old one left off? So no delays? Thanks

The file should be handed over, there will be a small delay as the new one gets up to speed but it wouldn't be back to square 1 unless the new lawyer has issues with what the previous one had done.0

The old solicitor will be able to pass over any searches they carried out plus responses to their enquiries, but the new solicitor will need to review everything from scratch and may have further enquiries to raise. It will add on time.0

Why has it taken so long for your buyers to obtain a mortage offer?1
