Connecting to a public wifi issue

Sadly the forget network made no difference. For some reason over recent weeks it's started saying ip configuration failure when trying to auto connect. The phone keeps trying and getting the same thing. Oddly we can get days were it connects as normal. We can get days were both phones connect, days were one does and one doesn't, days were that reverses and days were neither can connect.DullGreyGuy said:I'd echo the above suggestion of using the "forget network" and try again.
In our clients office we use their "guest" network, once a week when connecting to the network it's supposed to generate a popup to accept the terms and conditions of using the service. 9 times out of 10 it works as it should, and always works on my iPhone but occasionally on my laptop it doesn't trigger the popup and it shows as connected but with no Internet.
Tried a few different things but none triggered the popup, using the forget the network and reregistering on it however does and then get another weeks access before the next spin of the roulette wheel.0 -
As he was connected and you wasn't, I imagine he felt the same toward you.donnajunkie said:No, he was just a bit of a clueless idiot. He wasn't offended. He looked at his phone, it was connected so no problem in his view. Well i guess most WiFi problems do tend to be when it goes down altogether.
Let's Be Careful Out There1 -
And the appropriate stance would have been sorry are you having issues with our wifi. Then say i will let the manager know. I posted here in the hope of help not to get told off for not kissing someones feet for giving bad service. The only people to take offence from how i handled things are here. They had no problem at all. They just werent interested and due to lack of knowledge assumed there was no fault.HillStreetBlues said:

Or maybe they were doing the job they are paid to do and serve coffee than have time to listen to people whine about wi-fi which they are not obliged to provide.donnajunkie said:

Some peoples stances here are quite bizarre. If you have had a bad experience dealing with customers thats not my fault.BoGoF said:

I did not get their back up. I was there to see body language, hear tone of voice etc. Icerebus said:
No most people on here have noticed you handled the issue badly from the outset and got the guys back updonnajunkie said:

Wifi that is provided free for you to use is not a right and can be withdrawn at any time
know it is not an obligation to provide wifi. The fact remains they provide it and its not unreasonable to expect queries related to it. When they send questionnaires via email one of the questions is how did you find the wifi. So clearly they think its an important part of a customers experience. Also this is all irrelevant to what i am asking here. So all this side stuff doesnt even need to be brought up. All i need is where is the fault likely to be with, the phone or the wifi and is there anything i can do, change a setting etc.0 -
Yes, but what's the coffee like?1

Because it had an update, or they changed supplier, or moved the aerials.donnajunkie said:
Ok, but how can a wifi used for years and never have this happen ever suddenly have it happening almost everyday? How does it overload from too many users connected even on days with hardly any customers. How do none customers outside free load on it when they need a password to get in. That is why i didnt think that was the issue. I understand why people might think it was but i have pointed out reasons why its unlikely.PHK said:
Yes, and it's been explained to you but you discounted it pompously. It's obvious that the hotspot is overloaded. The symptoms fit perfectly.donnajunkie said:
Based on my experience do you think there's any other possible conclusion?PHK said:

You probably got the guys back up when you demanded to know when the wifi is fixed hence the "clever" responsedonnajunkie said:
I asked when will the wifi be fixed. all i got was a clever response. They said its is working look and showed me their phone connected. The problem with it is you still detect it and ability to connect seems random. Theres no logic. One day it will work fine the next it wont. We get days where one of our phones connects ok and the other does not, both pixel 7 phones. I will try the forget network thing next time. I think we are more concerned about it being a phone issue than not being able to connect.cerebus said:Have you asked whoever runs the public WiFi if there's a problem?
Have you also tried "forget network" then tried reconnecting to the WiFi using the correct password?
If you had asked "excuse me , I'm trying to connect to your wifi but I'm having trouble is there a problem your end?" You might have got a much more helpful response.
Like above probably too many people trying to freeload off the wifi that businesses use to entice customers in rather than people using it as their main way to connect to the net
As for there being fewer users, you mean fewer users you can see. It won't just be customers but also (as you demonstrated) staff including behind the scenes.0 -
Ok, i thank you for explaining why there maybe a fault their end. For there to be too many people connected they would have had to recently change how many the limit is and secondly they would have had to set it very low. As far as staff online goes they never have any more than 4 people working at any time. We have had the issue when the number connected is very likely to be well under 10.PHK said:
