Upgrade confusion

I am due an upgrade with EE and looking at the Samsung Galaxy S24. There automated service says the following: 

From £0 upfront and then £38.66 monthly device + airtime increases March 31st. 

When you click through the first option you get with 0 upfront is £70 something a month. 

Is it me or is there initial grab misleading?

Impossible to say without seeing what these comms are and what they actually say in full.

Presumably the second figure includes EE's (usually expensive) airtime but as @MorningcoffeeIV says it's impossible to give an opinion without seeing the actual proffer.

Just because you are "due an upgrade" doesn't mean you have to go down that route.

Have you considered keeping your handset and going SIM only?

Are they including the theoretical saving by adjusting the figure to include the maximum trade in offer?

Upgrade offers are rarely as good as new customer offers. You can get the same phone for £29.99 per month, with £149 upfront payment on ID Mobile (unlimited mins and texts and 100GB data). It will be even cheaper if you go through Top Cashback and buy from the Carphone Warehouse.

The ID Mobile deal will be cheaper over 24 months than the EE upgrade offer.
