Well i have spent 30 minutes on Youtube and what you have to do is unscrew the pins sticking out of the knobs ,use an allen key to remove the bodies ,remove the faceplate retainers ,behind that should be two water flow isolators ,screw them in,test the water is off ,remove the grub screw holding the thermostatic valve in place ( note the thermostacic cartridge is part of the temp control ) remove the whole item with a spanner ,de-scale or replace ,re build in the opposite flow of this, best of luck ,this does not look too hard for a competent DIY,er .
Thank you so much. Not sure I would call myself competent. This is a big help, even if only to direct the plumber!

Possibly, all you'd need to do is to unscrew the handle pin, undo the grub, pull off the round handle body, and use a box spanner on the cartridge.
    Possibly.

To conclude. First plumber to look at it, while doing another job for me, said it needed removing and tiles cut with an angle grinder and a refit. Second plumber said it would probably need a new shower unit, but couldn’t assess the damage to the wall until he started work. He then discussed with another plumber in his firm and did a first visit to have a look what was behind the scenes with a view to replacing the cartridge. As @Ganga and @ThisIsWeird thought, the handles came off with the use of an Allen key. Unfortunately there was no isolators behind, so the he took the cartridge out, took some photos and measurements and then replaced it. Came back the next day with a replacement cartridge and fitted it. Quite fiddly work as it took him a while, but no damage to the wall - even the sealant remained in place. Shower is now hotter than it has been in a while.

Thanks for the update. Phew, good job one of them knew what to do - a close, messy, expensive call!

Great news silvercar , thanks for the up date and enjoy your hot shower , what i do every so often is turn the temp up so the thermostat has to work ( move ) and then standing back as i am a wimp turn the temp down to cold ,this i hope stops the temp cartridge from seizing up .
