ISA fund performance comparison

Is there an easy way to see the 'average' performance of similar funds over a specified period of time? I hope that makes sense! I am a complete novice investor, but have held a 'medium risk' investment ISA for 5 years, which (after fees) has increased by 24%, so 4.8% per year averaged. I'd like to know how this compares to other funds in this risk profile? Thanks

The Investment Association defines sectors, against which most funds are mapped, which allows some form of comparison of funds within the same sector via analysis sites such as Trustnet or Morningstar:

What specifically are you invested in?

The IA sectors mentioned above will give you a guide.  However, some IA sectors contain funds of different risk levels.    So, you generally find the lower risk funds near the bottom and the higher risk funds at the top over the long term with short term periods being volatile and top/bottom changing around.

Probably not far off seeing that we have had more major negative events in the last 5 years than any other for generations.

Just to emphasise the difficulty of establishing valid and meaningful benchmarks, some medium risk funds fall within the IA Mixed Investment 40-85% Shares sector, but its breadth means that Trustnet has over 200 funds categorised as being in that sector, with five year performance ranging from -6.7% to +64%!  Or your fund may be in IA Mixed Investment 20-60% Shares, where the range is -12.9% to 38%....

Having said that, there are other factors that can be used to narrow down comparison to closer peers, such as the risk score they publish:

    https://www2.trustnet.com/learn/learnaboutinvesting/FE-Risk-Scores.html

but it really isn't an exact science!

If you just want to see a graph of one fund against another then various sites offer tools.
I use the one on the Fidelity site.

The ISA itself is not 'medium risk' . It is the investments you hold within the ISA.

Maybe a bit pedantic, but many people are confused over the difference.
