Help buying a grave plot

My mum died suddenly 15th January 2024
She wanted to ve buried the family plot with her mam and dad.
Her funeral was 7th February and we have learnt that you need to purchase the plot before we can put a headstone on.
We didn't know anything about this and heart broken due to not working and being a n unpaid carer for my 13 year old autistic daughter I just wouldn't be able to afford the 14678 that they are asking.
She paid for her funeral cash upfront in 2017 but not for the plot.
Is there any funding that you can get to help towards buying the plot ?

Yes you can buy a plot as I bought a double about 20 years ago £100+
Contact the local council or maybe google it1 -
£14k for a burial plot, is that right?0

Family plot - someone should have the 'deeds' to this, which authorises the burial of a certain number of people. However, the plot may be full, in which case no-one else can be buried there. £14 K+ doesn't sound right to me, and I would be asking for how that figure was reached. Otherwise I would approach your local parish council who usually allocate the graves. There will be a charge, probably several hundred quid, but nothing like £14k! The undertaker should be able to tell you who to contact.Sealed Pot Challenge no 035.

I am sorry to hear about your loss, I am pretty sure that there would be no help in paying for a plot. What is the status of the plot now? did the burial take place and you are just wanting to put a headstone up?0

That sounds ridiculously expensive. What kind of cemetery are you looking at? All local authorities should have their own managed graveyards and charges are usually a few hundred pounds per plot for local residents. If you (or the deceased) live out of the area where your chosen cemetery is, they may charge more. The headstone will be paid for separately and usually the funeral director will make a recommendation for a local firm to make this.I had this recently following the death of my husband. My in-laws wanted him buried near them (at considerable cost because we aren’t locals) but I put my foot down and opted for where my husband and I wanted to be (we want to be buried together in a double depth grave). The cost of his funeral, headstone, and burial was covered by the military but I know the local rate for the plot was about £600. When my time comes, the cost of reopening the plot to put me in it (and the cost of the stone that will lie flat on the ground in front of my husband’s headstone) will come out of my estate, but the initial fee was covered by the military.0

If you can’t afford for your mum to be buried, then I would look at the cremation option and put her ashes in the grave. Officially or not.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.3 -
