When a  " battery car " dies can you still move it ,does the electric transmission allow it to be pushed ,towed etc.
Yes. Within limits. Just put it in neutral.

A EV should never be towed with drive wheels on the ground.

Don't get why a EV running out of charge is any different to any other car running out of fuel.
Can happen to anyone if you happen to miss a turn off.
As someone mentioned 18 miles between junctions.. That is a long way when you are running on fumes. 🤣
How do they tow it onto a flat back pick up truck ?

slowly, and a few meters. Which isn't the same as towing it at 50mph for miles.

I'm not actually sure why you can't tow them; because it's not as if there's a differential to wind up.

Though I was under the impression that you could potentially recharge an EV by towing it due to the regenerative breaking. You'd presumably need to push it quite a distance along the hard shoulder to give it enough power to get to a charging point though.

Here's a fun vid from a few years ago, charging a Tesla by towing it.

Can You Charge A Tesla By Towing It? (With Ford Raptor)

PS - Fun fact from the end of the vid, towing the Tesla for 1 lap, will give it enough power to 'leisurely' drive another 5.6 laps ...... but the hit on the raptor's fuel economy is horrific.

PPS - For empty batt callouts, the ideal recovery vehicle would be a BEV with V2L (vehicle to load) so it can charge the 'empty' BEV. As shown by Ford using their Lightning pick-up to charge a Tesla, and then in response, a vid from Tesla showing a Cybertruck charging a Ford Lightning.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 28kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.
  • I believe the RAC are best equipped for EV breakdowns as all their vans have chargers.
Nissan give you free RAC cover on their EVs when you service it there.
  • There were estimated 90 minute delays on the M6 today from an accident. I always wonder if anyone gets caught out on fuel or charge with these delays and possible diversions. I'm a fill up at 1/4 left guy. I never push it.

Fuel quite possibly in an ICE.

EV or HEV unlikely as I was sat in 45 minutes of traffic last week on the M6 and entered with 58mpg average and left with 64mpg in my hybrid 😄

Slow moving traffic is the bread and butter for an EV (and a HEV).

A EV not moving uses no battery power. Unlike a ICE sat ticking over.
EV will use a small amount on heating.
But if you are that low, you will turn it off. Same as you would in a ICE.

An ICE will use negligible fuel just idling in a traffic jam.

My old car was in the region of 0.2g/hr (could have been l/hr - I forget)

My Dacia turns the engine off if stationary for a while ,you can over ride it but if stuck in traffic why would you.

Only if you turn it off entirely, otherwise displays, lights etc will be using some power
