Broadband Mid-Contract Price Rise

My contract with Plusnet expires in a few days I have managed to negotiate a couple of discounts but immediately after my contract renewal email (minimum was 18 months), I received an email saying it would be going up by £3.40 in March, so that has wiped out most of the discount!
I know that OfCom are looking at this but I understand it is only in terms of "transparency" i.e. making it obvious there would be a mid contract rise which seems to be CPI + 3.9% by most providers. So, higher than current inflation rates.
I have shopped around but we want to keep our landline and call plan and many cheaper providers don't offer that.
I can see this "mid-contract" price rise becoming a thing now with other types of contract! Now "required" for investment but what did they do a couple of years ago when there was no mid contract rise?

If wanting to keep your landline, Plusnet may not have been the best choice if you want to go to FTTP services in the future.
They do not have a Digital Voice service and currently have no plans to provide one.0 -
Presumably they will allow you to "break" your contract if they announce the rollout. Or possibly not!0

It started to be included in the contract you agree to with most of the mainstream broadband providers after too many people on MSE would switch to take advantage of new customer offers every time a price increase was announced.thriftytracey said:
