Vodafone to Vodafone SIM only contract can't take phone number

I have just tried to renew my Vodafone sim only contract which is due for renewal 19th April. The prices offered were £20 for 80GB and unlimited calls & texts or £21.80 for 150GB and unlimited calls & texts. However on Martin's cheap SIM card finder there are equivalent offers on Vodafone network for about £10. Vodafone have told me that if I cancel my contract and move to another Vodafone provider using my PUK code that i CANNOT retain my phone number. I can only retain it if I move to a completely different provider e.g. 02 or Three. Is this correct? We only seem to get a decent signal where we live on Vodafone (and have no landline). Thanks for any suggestions.

You could port out to a 30 day provider (such as Lebara who also use the Vodafone network) and then back to Vodafone.0

Have a look at mobiles.co.uk, choose 'Vodafone upgrades' to see options for new contract while keeping same SIM.0
