Octopus £0 exit fee tarrif

It seems that Octopus deals vary in terms of exit fees based on when you signed up and for which particular deal. I'm on a 12M fixed and it has early exit fees of £150. However, you should note that you can switch to a new provider if you are within 49 days of your deal ending - this is an Ofgem rule.
I queried this with Octopus and the operator (by email) who replied insisted I would still be charged the exit fees if I switched before the end of my deal. I went back a couple of times to the operator as I was sure this was wrong - I included several links to switching articles that said they are not allowed to charge within 49 days of end of deal. Eventually, and only after I found a link on Ofgem's website stating this rule (it wasn't easy to find this!!) the operator backed down and agreed it was true.
