Even £6 is cheap. Around here it is £12 even for just a basic clippers and scissors cut. Although since lockdown I have got used to my OH doing it for free ( not much to cut anywayflaneurs_lobster said:My barber has a "Seniors" rate of £4 for a cut. He defines "Senior" as anyone over 60. TBH it's cheap around here too, I have to take 2 (free) busses 3 miles (or put the walking shoes on) to get that rate, and there's always a wait.Albermarle said:

No free bus pass until state pension age for me.sgx2000 said:So finally get to 60 and no discounts anywhere other than free bus....
I am sure we where always told that pensioner got things cheap everywhere....
Sad.....It's just my opinion and not advice.1 -
If the discount is actually good, that may well be a commercial decision. An NHS worker is restricted as to how many times they can take advantage of the discount by limitations of annual leave. A retired NHS worker could, potentially, take advantage of the discount far more times in the year.Johnny_uk said:Blue Light is good for some things, lots of discounts, but sadly TUI require you to have your NHS Email, so no holiday discounts for us retired folk who were frontline for Covid and a lot of other disasters, that sadly, had a devastating effect on some of us. Im guessing our Pensions are too good for the discounts..
Otherwise, lots of other good discounts from Blue Light
I am confused to the reference to being unfair on those that were frontline for COVID. I really can't see that having been in the decision making by TUI. If it had been, surely, the vast majority of retired NHS workers all retired before COVID.
On a wider question, the apparent reduction in age-related discounts might well be down to equality. Could providers be concerned that a discount base on being over 60 (or whatever age) is open to challenge as discrimination for a protected characteristic?
Even if these age related discounts are legal, would service providers seek to avoid them so that staff are not open to the risk of challenge from younger people demanding the discount and creating a scene at the store / venue?0 -
