I got rid of my Ring because of the subscription and bought a Eufy

  • I dont have (or need) a video doorbell but I have been very happy with my Eufy security cameras, I think Eufy do a doorbell that has no subscription.

I have two ring cameras, and have just been told that the annual subscription is increasing from £34.99 per year per device, to £49.99 per year per device. A >40% increase is bad enough, but it increased by 40% last year I think.
I'm now wondering what camera systems others are using that give similar (or better) performance but for better value?
I have a Eufy with zero subscription costs though many people don't like them because of their past behaviour. I'm personally of the opinion of "Go see my driveway if you want. You can see that on Google maps anyway"

I may think twice about Eufy internal cameras however

AFAIK, there are security cameras that don't need any subscription. Why a doorbell has to be different?!
When buying a smart thermostat, one of my main priorities was full functionality (e.g. geofencing) without any subscriptions.
    ...

Are there thermostats that need subscriptions?
Basic functions are free for all of them.
When I looked 2-3 years ago geofencing required subscription with some thermostats. It's free with my Honeywell.

you could buy the Plus subscription for £80 a year that'll cover all devices on the 1 account
  • Do I need a Ring Protect subscription to use Ring Devices and their features?

No. You can use features including HD Live View, Two-Way Talk and Motion Alerts without a Ring Protect subscription.

I have a Eufy security camera at the rear of my house which doesn't require a subscription as they don't use cloud storage. I am very happy with it, and am considering getting a doorbell from them also.

Most complaints I've read are about Ring doorbells but at least you will still have a doorbell if you cancel your subscription.

I have two cameras which are also going up in price. £25 each annually when I bought the 3 years ago now going to be £50.

I use my cameras to capture wildlife by my pon and in the garden. If I cancel my subscription the cameras are useless.

Amazon know this and have us over a barrel.
Extortion is what it is called

I have 3 cameras, alarm system and the doorbell (used to have Eufy and then another make that I can’t remember but they were awful pictures) and I love my Ring cameras that we pay the yearly subscription for.
Waiting for the increase email now ….. 🤬🤬

EDIT- just checked and it’s still £80 a year for us so I’m happy.

Are prices changing on March 11, 2024 for other Ring Protect subscriptions?

No. The March 11, 2024 price increase only applies to the Ring Protect Basic plan.

Would a blink door bell with a hub, be a better alternative
