    Hi there,

My hubby insisted that we get a 47" LCD tv and our room measures approx 14' x 12' and I have to admit that it was a bit of overkill and I really had a problem with it! There were a few problems with the tv itself and in the end it had to go back to the shop and we got a 42" in its place and I know that it is still large but much better than the 47" that it replaced.

Our original tv was a 27" but I have to admit that the picture on the smaller one was far, far superior to the ones that we have had since (they don't really deal with anything that moves quickly or with flashing lights -like the X Factor etc. and there is no True Black colour either just a lot of different shades of grey). We did do the right thing though by getting one that is HD Ready, has a 10:80p which is the advanced HD screen and has twice the amout of pixels as the vast majority of 10:80 tv's (which is a huge selling point).

In my personal opinion I prefer to have the LCD screen as opposed to a Plasma screen as I think that the pictures are much better, although I suppose that the price of the plasmas are a great selling point (make sure if you do get one that when you are taking it home that you do not lie it down or on its side and it will completely screw it up and the picture will not work afterwards0.

I hope that this helps somewhat as I know how much of a nightmare  it is to go shopping in the first place with a man never mind to buy something as important to a man as a TV!!!

    Good luck and happy shopping

I have been surprised at how quickly you get used to a big screen. Having done a bit of creative cut and pasting with a broadsheet newspaper to get the gist of a 37" screen, I now wish we'd gone for a 40"! Get the largest you can possibly fit in the space and make a mock up of the size to fit before you decide.

Exactly what I was going to say, I bought a 42" a month ago, looked huge at first, but Im used to it now.
