Hi.
Presumably to initiate a complaint in the first place one has to have the original purchase financial paperwork/agreement? I have that for the current car but who would bother keeping such documents for previously owned vehicles? Also Martin referred to the matter only being for vehicles used primarily for personal use but as a self employed sole trader would a van also be regarded as personal use for me in said position? Many thanks.

I have bank statements going back to 1988. Lots of people retain documents and with computerisation, it is an absolute doddle with no need to delete stuff due to lack of space. Also Martin referred to the matter only being for vehicles used primarily for personal use but as a self employed sole trader would a van also be regarded as personal use for me in said position? If you used business financing rather than personal finanancing then it could be an issue.
I wouldn't be to worried about it at this time. The FCA has suspended complaints on motor finance and is reviewing the situation and will issue a report in September on what needs to be done. One of the options being considered is to force all the firms that did it to be proactive rather than rely on complaints being sent in.
So, create a task or diary note for September to look at it then. It is also expected that by then, an increasing number of lenders will state whether discretionary interest applied to them or not.
