Lost in transit

Ordered a tablet from Currys on 12th January with credit card, delivery address and billing address different. Did not ask for tablet to be left with neighbour or in a designated safe area.

Delivery was delayed by a day, had no confirmation email or message from resident yet on checking dpd tracking it said delivered. Driver from Dpd had left item and taken a blurry close up picture.

Contacted Currys who claimed they would raise a lost in transit but would take 7 to 14 working days then I'd receive an email. Asked for updates a couple of times but was just told to be patient. After 15 working days no email or anything so asked for refund.

Was then informed I'd be given an update on the refund within 48 to 72 hours by email. No email again!!

What's the best course of action to pursue from here, would it be to contact credit card company or to try another route to get them to pull the proverbial finger out?

Thanks in advance.

  • Do you have an email address for them/how have you been contacting them?

If so, I'd make a formal complaint by email* - mostly because if you want to take it forward with your card provider (or need to go to court eventually) it's generally helpful if you have evidence of how you tried to resolve the issue with the company/who said what when.

A simple timeline of what happened and who you spoke to included in the complaint, plus a polite but firm request that they send a replacement item/refund (whichever is your preferred outcome) promptly (within 14 days), and quoting the relevant section of the consumer rights act re delivery & risk passing (28 and 29 here), will document the pertinent details.

*Their twitter has previously given letusknow@currys.co.uk for complaints, but you might want to DM them to check if this address is still monitored as several companies seemed to have removed the ability to email recently.

FWIW, DPD are pretty awful for delivering on the wrong day with no warning.
My last parcel came a day earlier than the email and tracking said and was dumped in the porch, despite their guidance saying it would need a signature.
The one before that was delivered to my house, despite having accepted my request for it to go to click and collect instead.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I'm not sure what you're saying.

When you say "... had no confirmation email or message from resident...", I'm not sure what the relevance of the "resident" is.  It seems an odd turn of phrase.

Do you mean that the delivery address was not an address you reside at - in other words it was being delivered to someone else (the resident) and not to you?

    So explain.
Is one address your address of card statements & the other where it was to be delivered. but not your home address?
Have you contacted people where it was delivered to get it back?
Has it been reported to police if where it was delivered said they never got it?

  • Yes, to clarify. I purchased the item for a friend, so the billing address was my house and delivery was my friends house... In relation to confirmation email or hearing from resident, my friend didn't call to say they had received anything and I hadn't had any email saying it was delivered.... If I could post the picture of what the driver took then you would understand why we don't know where it was left, but we looked and  couldn't find the item so have no idea what the driver did and don't know why it wasn't returned to depot given no instructions were given for it to be left.
