ID phone company

I do not need personal advice but this is feedback, if I may. When we changed home we decided to use the ID package at 8.00 sterling pm based upon a MSE link.

We then discovered they excluded 01, 02, 03 and o7 numbers with a charge of 45p per minute.  (Obviously we should have been a lot more careful in reading the details!)

It was the 03 number we found most worrying. We were mainly using this to call our bank and to make hospital appointments  - with obvious delays.

When we complained we were given a cancellation fee of 66.31 and when challenged they reduced by 20 sterling if we withdrew the complaint.

We are proceeding with our complaint because we believe the offer was misleading and not fit for purpose

We hope this can help others.

Thanks

  • What kind of deal was this?

01,02,03 numbers come out of your allowance of minutes as do standard 07 mobile numbers on Pay Monthly tariffs.

Once your allowance is used up the 01,02,03,07 numbers are chargeable.
Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid

Our household signed up for ID Mobile around 3 months ago (2 phones). They provided a package at £7 per month each with unlimited calls and texts plus 10gb of data (More data available for not much money if wanted). This deal was freely available on lots of websites including their own. Very unusual to have a package which excludes most of the telephone numbers people would actually call.
  • Do you mean ID Mobile? Why is changing home relevant?

Seems odd, all of their PAYM deals come with unlimited calls and would include 01,02,03 and 07 numbers.

A PAYG deal has unlimited calls until the data allowance is consumed, but since early termination charges are mentioned it isn't this.

Leaving home meant we decided to change provider

I'm with ID Mobile and pay 29.99 Great British sterling pounds per month which includes unlimited minutes. I have never been charged extra for calling 01, 02, 03, or 07 numbers. I have nothing bad to say about ID and think it's good value.

    Why?

And the other points? Is it ID Mobile? What was the deal that you signed up to?
  • Update: after 18 minutes I managed to speak to ID call centre. I explained we are on a 8 pound sterling monthly contract and that within 5 days we had reached our limit. We then discovered that unlimited calls mean not 01, 02 or 03 and certain 07 numbers which are available of their website. Since the limited calls we make are 01, 02 and 03 and 07 at 40 p a minute this is a very limited and misleading contract. Welcome thoughts about how we escape from such rogues? I can't be the only person experiencing such. My next move will be to complain to the regulator after they come back to me within 10 days and then perhaps asking WHICH? to do a super complaint concerning such misleading practices.

Where do you live? You say it is an £8 sterling contract which, to me, implies that you are not living in the UK.

If you are in somewhere like the Channel Islands or Isle of Man then you are deemed to be roaming and, for Jersey for example (which is outside the UK and EU), the cost with ID mobile is 40p per minute.

This applies to many UK mobile phone contracts although I can confirm that O2 don't charge for such calls from the Channel Islands or Isle of Man. What you can't do is permanently use an O2 sim over there as that would be considered to be permanent roaming (which isn't permitted in their terms and conditions).
  • Nope, still doesn't make sense. Please quote the details of your contract or a link to where we can see what you signed up to.

Are you sure you are dealing with ID Mobile?

I would tend to agree that the OP is likely not in the UK (the use of Sterling and the odd way of writing)

If it is ID Mobile, then all their contracts include UK 01,02,03 and those 07 numbers that aren't special rate.
