I'd ask your current provider to get your meter updated on the national database to single rate or I can guarantee you a world of pain with Eon Next if you do not and go ahead with the switch. Don't ask me how I know, I don't have a hour to spare  :D

It says they think I have an E7 meter, and that if that's wrong I should contact them - there's a link to the "contract us" page with phone number and email address. If there's a way to just tell the website, without having to involve a human, then I'd love to know.
The database thinks you have an E7 meter, and so the website will only offer you E7 tariffs.
You'll have to phone them (or, as Swipe says, persuade OVO to change your meter type first).

Right, it must be possible to properly change from E7 to single register, avoiding the "adding together" tariffs. That would involve updating the database and would then avoid problems like the one I have.

I will ask OVO if they can do it, or else I can pay an electrician and buy a new meter if needed.

E.On Next will have no problem putting you on the single rate once you've signed up with them. If you're just looking for quotes online without speaking to anyone, use the address of someone nearby (or anywhere so long as it's in the same region as you) who you know has a single rate meter. Obviously you don't do anything further than just ask for a quote!!!

The problem I can foresee, if I sign up to the tariff they are offering me (E.On 12m Pledge, E7) is that this is a fixed tariff for 12 months with exit fees. Then when I'm their customer I try to change to the non E7 version of the tariff, will this be possible without paying any fees?

I think I'll have to speak with someone at E.on. Or try and change my meter. Or just stay on my current tariff with OVO rather than have all the hassle.

Yes they can be a bit funny about that - they refused to change me over from E7 to flat rate in the autumn of 2022 when the day/night breakeven point had been drastically changed mid-term by the government interference with energy bills at that time. You need to speak with them, but there should be no need for a meter change as they're quite happy to charge a single rate if asked, as are most of the big suppliers.
