PS, looking through my bills I can see my usage over the last 12 months was just over 25 thousand kWh
If it's a big house (8 downstairs radiators would suggest it is), and insulation isn't great then 25000kWh of heating isn't particularly unusual. Especially if you like the house nice and warm most of the time.
Thanks. It's about 2300 sq ft I believe so not huge by any means (3 rads in kitchen/snug area, 1 in utility, 2 in main living, 1 in 2nd living room, 1 in hall). About average insulation and we are quite conservative with putting on the heat (don't have a timer or thermostat or timer, just put it on when we feel the need which I think averages 2-3 hours per day at the moment).
If Google's conversion to ~213m² is correct, that's pretty big.  More than double the average size of detached home in England.
https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5f047a01d3bf7f2be8350262/Size_of_English_Homes_Fact_Sheet_EHS_2018.pdf  (from 2018 so, give or take.  But the overall national average is still 97m², slightly up from 94m² in the 2018 data.  Lots of other sources hover the mean UK home size around the 90m² mark but it's hard to find up-to-date primary sources.)

Not a majorly important point, but just so you have some idea of how far away from typical usage you might expect to be.

97 is the average semi. Detached is 149 in England. So slightly more than a third bigger than average.

Whoops, melty brain mixing numbers up, sorry.

Btw there was any intended judgement in my previous comment either, I hope it didn't sound like there was.
It literally was just for some helpful perspective when thinking about the kind of usage that might be expected.  The 'typical' gas usage for an overall average home is 12000kWh/yr (or actually now 11,500kWh) so your 25000kWh is about expected, if the typical consumption indeed relates to a 97m² house.  (The 2022 data saying that's the overall average house size in England, across all sizes and types.)

Get yourself a programmable thermostat and fit TRVs to the radiators - Properly set up, you can get that bill down.
