How easy is it to get a office type job with no experience

Wouldn't it make sense to go through the work capability assessment process? That won't stop you taking up a job if you find one within your current capabilities (and hopefully your condition, especially your voice, will improve), but will ensure you remain entitled to the relevant benefits._Jem_ said:
I have the normal work search review next week, It's a phone conversation one so I will ask then. Thanks.Cloth_of_Gold said:_Jem_ said:
You would think so, I had a appointment last November with the disability and health advisor, and had a really good conversation, but haven't heard from them since. last week my work coach phoned I said about the advisor and he said he will find out what's going on. It's complete silence from their end.Cloth_of_Gold said:Could the Job Centre not get you on a training course to upgrade your skills? Or how about an apprenticeship? They have them for all sorts of things these days, not just for the traditional jobs such as plumber, electrician etc.
Maybe you need to be a bit pushy. Look online and see what sort of courses/retraining they can offer and then ask them to put you forward for something that you like. If they say know ask why not. If you don't think their answer is reasonable, as for it to be escalated. If that gets you nowhere and you really think they are blocking you, write to your MP.
When I had my work capability assessment, one work coach said are you going to appeal, Straight out I said no absolutely not and gave my reason, the work coach didn't know what to say I suppose the work coach was counting on me appealing. Before I had my fit note I had 4 work coaches telling me to go to the doctors and get signed off so I can get a work capability assessment, I kept on saying no because I'm sure there is something I can do but I just need some help to get me started as it will be like starting fresh from leaving school.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0 -
Yes certainly worth a try, I will start looking 👍SensibleSarah said:Are you able to upskill yourself in the meantime, by taking free online course for Microsoft office suite etc, working on improving typing and the like? If you don't have access to Microsoft suite then Google Docs has free online versions of everything if you have a gmail account (you can make a free one if you don't have one already).
That would help you get some of the basic computing skills you'll likely need in most office roles.1 -
Obviously worth applying if the OP has the skills/qualifications required for the role, but not to expect instant appointment if successful at interview.OrbitHeadache said:
That is true of some jobs but not all.lincroft1710 said:
According to some previous threads on this board, candidates can be successful at interviews for CS posts but have to wait for months before they are offered an actual job.OrbitHeadache said:Try the civil service, both HMRC and DWP AO jobs require no experience and are hybrid working so 2 days at home
Reserve list are upto 12 months.
Still worth applyingIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
The Open University has a programme called Open Learn, which is free courses in a wide variety of areas.Do you have a local adult education provider? They should be able to offer basic IT courses which are often subsidised or free if you are in receipt of benefits. There is a government funded programme of learning called ‘free courses in England’.You might be able to pick up some basic skills as well as find some interesting topics that might push you in a useful direction for roles. This organisation might be helpful? https://www.lary.org.uk/information/working-with-a-voice-problemDebt free as of 2 October 2009

Just thought I would update this:
Absolutely rubbish work coach. Had my phone appointment and was asked what have I been doing to look for work as I have to look for work even though he has paused job searching. I said hold on you said you were going to speak to the Health and Disability, O yes do you want me to get her to phone you. This is beyond a joke now. I said I can't do manual work so I have been looking at office work. If I haven't heard from them in a weeks time I'm going to make a complaint.0 -
Sorry your having such a difficult time with this.

The NHS has lots of backroom roles & excellent training, they took me on after far too many years working in retail with no office experience when other employers seemed allergic to me. If you have a look on NHS jobs for your region & look for Band 2 or 3 admin jobs you may find something. Good luck !DFW NERD# 1175Proud Member of Sealed Pot Challenge #5 ~ 1479 cashless_wonder~*DEBT FREE & LOVING IT*~

Thanks it's certainly putting a strain on things and not obviously helping with my voice, The speech therapist said to reduce stress as this is the main trigger. I think stress and the job centre go together.Cloth_of_Gold said:Sorry your having such a difficult time with this.

And you know where to come for tips on completing an application form or preparing for/having an interview, should you need them.
