I have the normal work search review next week, It's a phone conversation one so I will ask then. Thanks.Cloth_of_Gold said:_Jem_ said:
You would think so, I had a appointment last November with the disability and health advisor, and had a really good conversation, but haven't heard from them since. last week my work coach phoned I said about the advisor and he said he will find out what's going on. It's complete silence from their end.Cloth_of_Gold said:Could the Job Centre not get you on a training course to upgrade your skills? Or how about an apprenticeship? They have them for all sorts of things these days, not just for the traditional jobs such as plumber, electrician etc.
Maybe you need to be a bit pushy. Look online and see what sort of courses/retraining they can offer and then ask them to put you forward for something that you like. If they say know ask why not. If you don't think their answer is reasonable, as for it to be escalated. If that gets you nowhere and you really think they are blocking you, write to your MP.
When I had my work capability assessment, one work coach said are you going to appeal, Straight out I said no absolutely not and gave my reason, the work coach didn't know what to say I suppose the work coach was counting on me appealing. Before I had my fit note I had 4 work coaches telling me to go to the doctors and get signed off so I can get a work capability assessment, I kept on saying no because I'm sure there is something I can do but I just need some help to get me started as it will be like starting fresh from leaving school.0 -
Could you handle a telephone?
There was an assessment day recently for a council contact centre (only a handful showed up for the day (was expecting masses of competition as a customer service job in my hometown got nearly 490 applications alone and three of us at the council assessment were actually 'oldies')
1 year contract on the phones and computer work as the world we're now in do live chat, emails and tickets, high turn over role it was said but it does get used by some to move on to better positions within the council.

Not at the moment, My voice cuts out and gets sore when talking even after 10 minutes, some days are better but I have more worse days than good, but it's certainly something to look at for the near future. I certainly don't want to be out of work this year, like I was last year, I would say I have good customer service skills.Unwell2023 said:Could you handle a telephone?

Try the civil service, both HMRC and DWP AO jobs require no experience and are hybrid working so 2 days at home2

According to some previous threads on this board, candidates can be successful at interviews for CS posts but have to wait for months before they are offered an actual job.OrbitHeadache said:Try the civil service, both HMRC and DWP AO jobs require no experience and are hybrid working so 2 days at homeIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1 -

This is why I have been writing down all conversations I have had from work coaches, as it doesn't seem right. I thought the DWP were getting stricter with people who are not working. It's taken time for me to accept that my voice isn't going to get better any time soon, but I'm all geared up to do a sit down job. I'm on a 12 month waiting list for the respiratory appointment, that would take me to August/September.Cloth_of_Gold said:_Jem_ said:

Also, many of those CS roles will require use of a telephone or video calls and some knowledge of packages such as MS Word or Excel.OrbitHeadache said:

Are you able to upskill yourself in the meantime, by taking free online course for Microsoft office suite etc, working on improving typing and the like? If you don't have access to Microsoft suite then Google Docs has free online versions of everything if you have a gmail account (you can make a free one if you don't have one already).
That would help you get some of the basic computing skills you'll likely need in most office roles.2
