EDF Exit Fees
It is very frustrating that on every bill (monthly) it has a message that says I could save money by switching tariff but also reminds me that there is an early exit fee.
I thought it was prudent to take out a fixed deal when the prices were increasing ever higher in 2012 with no talk about possible subsidies. But in what I can only describe as cynical profiteering the fixed deals came with a hefty exit fees. Far higher than previously!
Now I get messages to switch tariffs but with a severe penalty! I have asked EDF if they can do anything about it but with no luck at all. Sure many fell into this trap too and feel there should be a way to get a reduced fee if staying with the same supplier.
An example of the statements are below

An example of the statements are below
For your electricity (on meter point )
You could save £230.28 a year by switching to EDF
Essentials 1Yr Feb25v3, but remember your current
tariff has an early exit fee of £150.00 per fuel. You
may need to change how you pay or your meter
setup, but contact our team if you’d like to switch.
For your gas (on meter point )
You could save £436.37 a year by switching to EDF
Essentials 1Yr Feb25v3, but remember your current
tariff has an early exit fee of £150.00 per fuel. You
may need to change how you pay or your meter
setup, but contact our team if you’d like to switch.

All suppliers have to let you know if there are cheaper tariffs to conform to Ofgem rules and regulations.
It is always worth reaching out to your supplier to see if they will waive these fees. Some tariffs allow you to switch internally without exit fees as well so read your contract.
Some tariffs of course require a smart meter as well.0 -
