Mobile Help
Hi i bought a brand new Sony v630i mobile handset locked to vodafone on ebay. I have taken out my vodafone simcard to use in it, but says incorrect sim. The phone came from Ireland, and would I be correct in thinking that it is maybe locked to vodafone ireland and this is different to england and thats why the phone wont work?
Is there a way round this, as there is no simcard with the phone? The phone seems to be fine, and is indeed new and the parts are mostly sealed. Would it be easy to unlock it? Any help would be really appreciated as I bought it for my son for christmas as his main present , and he is upset as no phone. Thanks

it will be locked to voda ireland.
if you can get hold of the seller and they are the original owner of the phone, you could ask them if they can request the unlock code from vodafone for free if its over a year old.
most independent mobile shops should be able to unlock this for £10-£150 -
cheers for the advice, will try and get it unlocked0

Hi redlakes,
I hope you've had a good Christmas and are now looking forward to the new year. I can offer some advice for you with this.
Your phone is almost certainly locked to Vodafone Ireland and you would need to get in touch with them for the unlock code. As gaming_guy says, normally it's quicker if the original owner of the phone contacts Vodafone Ireland for you if they were the registered user. Vodafone Ireland would give them the code no problem once confirming their details on the account. I'd also make sure that the person you bought the phone from has the IMEI number of the phone and the make and model too. This is what Vodafone Ireland will need to get the unlocking code.
You can get the IMEI from the sticker in the battery compartment or by pressing *#06# on the phone so the IMEI comes up on the screen. It's 15 digits long and normally starts with 35.
Again as gaming_guy suggests, there would normally be a charge for the unlocking code. They may supply it for free if the phone is over a certain age, normally around 12 months or more.
Hope you get this sorted soon and are able to enjoy the many products and services of Vodafone UK.
Hope this helps!
