Problem porting from Vodafone to Tesco
Options
Please can anyone help. I transferred 2 numbers from Vodafone to Tesco Mobile on 18th December. Probably the worst decision that I have ever made. One number was to be ported to an existing phone and the other to a new phone purchased from Tesco.
Currently neither phone can send or receive SMS, nor receive calls made from a landline and calls made to one of the phones are directed to Vodafone voicemail, which of course I no longer have access to.
The matter has been escalated as far as it can to the Tesco Mobile Concerns team who have been unable to assist other than giving me the stock answer of 'we're trying to fix the problem. I am dismayed with their latest response which is an offer to give me PAC numbers to move away from Tesco, but with no guarantee that this would fix the problem. I have had my number for over 30 years and the consequence of losing it is not something I want to consider. I would be grateful for any advice please

You have what's called a split port, a problem caused by the operator who was originally allocated the number. This might not be Vodafone or Tesco.
These things can either take a few days or several weeks depending who the original operator was. Tesco should offer compensation once its sorted.
You can find the process used at mnposg.org.uk
I am afraid there's very little that you or Tesco can do. Its reliant on the original network and some are better than others.
What you can do is port the number back to the original operator that was allocated the number. If you don't remember then you can look it up in the number allocation tables on the Ofcom website. Once that's sorted you can then port out again.2 -
Unfortunately porting can be a little more complicated when it involves an mvno like tesco, as they will be reliant on their carrier network o2.
Do you remember which network issued you with the number?
Do you still have your vodafone sim? Has that actually been deactivated? And what about the temporary number for the tesco sim, does that still do anything? Calling out from your tesco sim, what happens?0
