but seriously not whilst you're driving it isnt...sat nav's do more than the map will ever do - however, i always consult a map first as a sat nav wont always take you on the best route

I have noticed also that a little bit of common sense and local knowledge can make a better route than sat nav, and I always ignore the route it tells me to get to the motorways as I leave my house.

Anyone see the competition of a Taxi versus Sat nav around London on the Click program shown on BBC News 24?

    Satellite navigation review

    TomTom ONE 3rd Edition

The TomTom One 3rd Edition sat nav is a great piece of equipment that might have been a Best Buy, had it not lost reception in built-up areas during our tests. It’s also not that easy to install and remove.
A map of Western Europe is supplied, and a wide selection of other maps can be bought, including Australia, South Africa, the US and Canada.
There’s no slot for an SD memory card, so maps need to be downloaded directly onto the device using a PC. Due to this, maps of the US are broken up into segments to make them easier to download.
Audio instructions are timely and clear, and the volume adjusts appropriately, depending on the car’s speed. Routes are accurate and wrong turnings result in quick re-calculations.
The display is small but uncluttered and the instructions will get you to within a few metres of your destination. Amendments to the route can be easily made when mobile, multiple instructions are clear and the hazard warnings are accurate.
The menu is intuitive but both hands are required to install and remove this device from its cradle, which is annoying. The device can be secured by a 4 digit Pin, and is slim and pocket-sized.
Pros: Uncluttered screen, accurate directions, information can be shared with other users
Cons: Loss of reception in built-up areas
